Number System

Counting of the numbers is an integral part of our daily life, it is a mathematical object used for counting and measuring. In Mathematics we are using only 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 digits but by using these digits we can frame infinite numbers such as 0,1,2,3,4,5,.................∞ these are called Natural Numbers. In mathematics we have different type of numbers such as 

1. Natural Numbers(N):  

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.........................∞

2. Whole Numbers:

     0,1,2,3,4,5............................∞
     Note: All Natural Numbers are whole numbers but all whole numbers are not natural numbers)

3. Integer Numbers(Z

     Positive Integers and Negative Integers(+Ve and -Ve counting numbers as well as Zero)
      ∞...... -6,-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,---------∞

4. Rational Numbers(Q): 

 (The Numbers are in the form of a/b where a,b are the integers and b is not 0)

5. Real Numbers(R) and 

( + Ve or -Ve Numbers, Decimal such as  4, 15.78, -0.783, 3/4, √2,  198.....)

6. Irrational Numbers: 

A Real Number that is not Rational

7. Imaginary Numbers: 

Numbers that equal the product of a real number and the square root of –1.

8. Complex Numbers(C): 

The Numbers are in the form of a + bi, where a and b are the real numbers and i is the square root of -1
